[Genesis 13:5-12 KJV] “And Lot also, which went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents. And the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together: for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together. And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram’s cattle and the herdmen of Lot’s cattle: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land.”
“And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren. Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.”
“And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar. Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other. Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom.”
Increase is good, prosperity is good but the danger of increase is the temptation to compete for space. The Bible teaches that when God called Abraham to go out to a place He will show him, Abraham went with Lot. The Bible teachers that both of them increased and their herdsmen began to fight for space. Our father Abraham called Lot and explained why it was needless for them to fight. Father Abraham suggested separation and Lot agreed; the only mistake was that Lot chose the watered places and did not consider that it was close to Sodom and Gomorrah.
I have counsel for you; no matter how provoked you feel; never choose anything over a relationship that has helped to bring you this far. Increasing has a way of leading you to make foolish and poor choices, but decide today, that no matter how much you increase, you are never going to sever a relationship with your “Abraham”.
Your Abraham is the man on whose promise and covenant you have hitchhiked to come this far. Abraham was the one God called, and he took Lot along. Abraham is the man by whom Lot become blessed but when Lot increased, his herdsmen began to strive with Abraham’s herdsmen. Instead of Lot calling them to order, he rather chose to be separated from Abraham.
Lot eventually lost everything because when he separated he chose to live near Sodom and Gomorrah. Never separate from your Abraham!
Stay blessed
