[Hebrews 4:1-16 KJV] “Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. [2] For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. [3] For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said”,
“As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest:”
although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. [4] For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works. [5] And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest”.
[6] “Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief: [7] Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said,
To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts”.
[8] “For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. [9] There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. [10] For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. [11] Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief”.
[12] “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. [13] Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do”.
[14] “Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession“.
We bless God for the promise of entering into His rest, but it is important to know that even though God has promised us rest, any of us can miss that promise. To receive the promise, we must observe seven things:
1. Fear:
Let us fear to miss the promise. We should be careful not to miss the promise. We should beware because you can miss the promise. In fact, “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom”. Until you begin to fear God, you will remain a fool. Wisdom begins with fearing God.2. Believe:
Mix the word with faith in your heart. It takes faith to walk into the promise. Only those who mix the word with faith can enter the promise. Faith will inspire legitimate work or labour.3. Yield:
Deal with doubt, unbelief, and hardness of heart. Unbelief and doubt can steal your blessing. You must deal with it. When you harden your heart, God cannot help you. You must yield to the leading of the Spirit to find life.4. Labour:
Strive to labour to enter into His rest. It takes hard work to enter into that realm of rest. It will not be easy but can be done if we do it with love.5. Purge:
Purge your motives. Serve God because you love. Let love be the motive. You must have purged motives because the word of God is a discerner of thoughts and intents. No flesh can be hidden from Him.6. Endure:
Hold on to your profession of faith. Speak the right things. Speak by faith and speak the word. Don’t change your confession simply because things are not working out the way you had it planned. The plans of God are far higher than ours.7. Pray:
Come boldly before the throne of Grace anytime you feel overwhelmed by the events of life. There may be times in our journey to enter into the rest of the Lord when the going will be tough, but you must learn the secret of coming before God in prayer. You will surely enter into the rest of the Lord and you will begin to do the first works.
God bless you, I love you!
