We have been studying about overcoming devils in this Month of Spiritual Warfare. Today, we understand that the devil is our adversary, who is seeking who he may devour. We also know that the adversary is walking about, searching diligent for someone vulnerable enough to devour. The devil cannot devour a strong and intelligent person.
[1 Peter 5:8-9 KJV] “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: [9] Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world”.
1. Be sober and vigilant:
The first secret to escape the devil’s traps and schemes is to be sober and vigilant. You must not be drunken; the watch word is be sober and vigilant. This beast will make use of every least opportunity to try to wreck havoc in your life.
2. Be aggressive, and be on the offensive:
The second secret to escape the devil’s traps is to be aggressive and be on the offensive. You must not just react and respond; you must resist him. You must stand up and fight back. You must fight the devil fiercely untill He flees.
3. Be separated and submitted unto God:
The third secret to escape the devil’s traps is separation and submission unto God before aggression against devils. Remember that friendship with the world is enmity with God. An enemy of God cannot fight the devil. We can fight devils when we learn to be separated from the world and be submitted to God.
[James 4:4-7 KJV] “Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. [5] Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? [6] But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. [7] Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you”.
When our obedience is complete, then we can punish all forms of disobedience. You must be separated from the world and be submitted to God, if you want to be successful in resisting the devil.
The Bible says, “he that commits sin is of the devil”. Jesus Christ came to destroy the works of darkness. We must trust Him to pay for our sins, if we want to overcome devils.
[1 John 3:8 KJV] “He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil”.
4. Be forgiving and free from bitterness:
The fourth secret is forgiveness. Anger is one of the devil’s most effective weapons against the church. You have every right to be angry but don’t let the sun go down on your anger. Don’t let the sun go down on your anger. Your anger does not work the righteousness of God. When you brood over issues in anger and bitterness, you give place to the devil.
[Ephesians 4:26-27 KJV] “Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Neither give place to the devil”.
5. Avoid the sacrifice, fellowship, and table of devils:
The fifth secret is to avoid the sacrifice, fellowship, and table of devils. Beware of partaking in pagan festivals and eating of their food. Those who sacrifice to idols fellowship with devils. You can be possessed by evil spirits just by eating food sacrificed to idols.
[1 Corinthians 10:18-21 KJV] “Behold Israel after the flesh: are not they which eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar? [19] What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing? [20] But I say , that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils. [21] Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils”.
Just as those who take Communion in church have fellowship with God, those who eat pagan blood-meals and food sacrificed to idols are having fellowship with devils.
The Lord is with you to defend you, only be sober, vigilant, and fiercely resist the devil. Be blessed.
