1 Samuel 17:45 – “Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts…”
Today we are discussing the story of David facing Goliath!
1. Identifying the Giants in Our Lives (vv. 4–11)
Goliath represented fear, intimidation, and opposition. What “giants” do we face today personal, family, or community challenges, that seem bigger than us?
2. David’s Different Perspective (vv. 26–32)
While others saw an impossible battle, David saw an opportunity to trust God.
Why do you think David saw the situation differently from Saul and the army? How can our perspective of problems change our response?
3. Remembering God’s Past Faithfulness (vv. 33–37)
David recalled how God delivered him from the lion and the bear. How does remembering past victories of God in our lives strengthen us for present challenges? Can you share a personal testimony?
4. The Weapons of Faith (vv. 38–40)
David refused Saul’s armor but chose what he knew—his sling, stones, and faith in God. What are some “spiritual weapons” we can use today instead of relying on human strength or worldly solutions? (E.g., prayer, Word of God, worship, fasting)
5. The Power of God’s Name (vv. 45–47)
David declared, “I come to thee in the name of the Lord.” How can we apply the truth that victory comes “in the name of the Lord” to our daily battles in faith, work, or relationships?
6. Turning Battles into Testimonies (vv. 48–54).
David’s victory became a testimony for all Israel. How can our personal victories encourage others in the church, family, or community to trust God more?
Practical Application
Encourage each participant to write down one “giant” they are facing and a Scripture they can use as a weapon of faith this week. Close with prayer, asking God for courage and victory.
