In Judges 6, we read how Israel became impoverished because of Midian. The Midianites destroyed their harvest seasonally and they actually came with their cattle. The Bible teaches that every year at harvest time Midian came to take all the harvest.
Against this background it’s important to note that there are many causes of poverty: laziness, roiteous eating of meat and wine bibbing, love for perfume and ointments, sickness, curses, and wickedness of others. Israel became poor because of the oppression of Midian; but after they cried out to God, He appeared to Gideon.
In Judges 7, the Lord began to deal with Gideon to turn the fortunes of Israel around. There are certain great lessons we can also learn to break the hold of poverty on our families or generations.
When God is turning things around, He gives you a vision.
Where there is no vision the people perish. His redemption from poverty starts with a dream. Pay attention to your visions and dreams and revelations.
Secondly, every vision requires a team. You need a team to run with vision.
To a large extent, the people that surround you in your inner circle influence how your dream unfolds.
How to surround yourself with the right peope;
Make sure the people closest to you; those who influence you are;
- People who can rise early to Gather with you. Lazy people will always invite poverty.
- People who can give God all the glory. People with the tendency to vaunt themselves against God will delay your prosperity. Humility is key. God resists the proud and give grace to the humble.
- People with a courageous heart. Fearful people will cheat. You must surround yourself with people of faith.
- People with discretion. God brought them to the water and seperated them by how they drank from the stream.
- People who speak by faith; and refresh you.
- People who will follow you and the strategies you outline. Gideon divided them into three companies and instructed them to do as he does.
Deal with the tendency to vaunt yourself against the Lord. Empty yourself of pride or confidence in the flesh; deal with the tendercy to vault yourself against the Lord
Purge the multitude; Deal with fear; surround yourself with men and woman with courageous heart
Surround yourself with men and women of discretion. Bring the men to be sorted at the waters.
Be careful what and how you hear. What you hear can make or break you.
Cast vision and outline the strategy carefully.
Insist that everyone fall in and adhere strictly to the strategy.
Stay blessed and see you at the top.
