What are the seven lessons from the story of Babel? We want to study how to build sustainable families, nations, businesses, churches, ministries and dreams. In studying the story of Babel to understand how to build sustainable societies, we must understand that if it works for godless vision, it will work for godly vision.
[Genesis 11:1-9 KJV] “And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.”
“And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.”
“And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.”
“Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech. So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.”
“Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth”.
1. Community
The people were one and belonged to a community that was bound by a common creed and covenant. The people were one and wanted to dwell together. We must add to the community of we want to walk in the common purpose.
2. Clarity
There should be clarity of purpose, goals and vision. We must all be informed about what the win is. We must know what we are up to. Clarity is important.
3. Courage
Courage is the third very important quality to win.
4. Competence
We can build sustainable dreams and visions when each player is competent in their calling and assignment. This will prevent reverse delegation. We must strive for competence.
5. Communication
One of the major ways to stop the building of the tower of Babel was to distort and confused their language. When God messed their language, the vision was messed up. Anything that distorts our communication will stop the building of the vision. We must strive to maintain healthy communication.
6. Compassion
Compassion that manifests as we-feeling or empathy is important to building visions and dreams. Listen when you hit a door against your finger; most often than not you immediately begin to jump as a result of the pain. Though there is nothing wrong with your knees and legs; you jump because a part of your body is hurt; until we begin to feel for each other, we will not excel together.
7. Consistency
You must be consistent if you will win and make impact. Consistency is a sign of loyalty, faithfulness, and trustworthiness. Until the change is necessitated by changing trends and demands; being constant pays.
Stay blessed
