Proverbs 27:23-27 KJV — Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, And look well to thy herds. [24] For riches are not for ever: And doth the crown endure to every generation? [25] The hay appeareth, and the tender grass sheweth itself, And herbs of the mountains are gathered.
[26] The lambs are for thy clothing, And the goats are the price of the field. [27] And thou shalt have goats’ milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, And for the maintenance for thy maidens.
No matter how good the situation may be; no matter how promising the status may seem, don’t ever be fooled by the good times because riches (money) and a crown (position) do not last forever. You may be up and rich today; but tomorrow may not be guaranteed.
Even in the good times, take stock and know the real state of your business, and machinery. Take diligent care of your machinery, processes and procedures.
The preacher therefore exhorts us to;
- Be diligent in knowing the state of your flock and take good care of your herd; which stands for your vocation and occupation: If you offer a service, take good care of the machinery and processes that produce the service. You can’t joke with the process and think the result would be good. Pay attention to the process.
- Keep evolving; don’t get stuck!: Sometimes, the old things must make way for some new things. You must be constantly evolving to stay abreast with changing trends.
- Budget and plan your spending well: Something like hay and tender grass appears on their own, but you need to take bold steps to gather herbs from the mountains and the wild. Budget and spend your profit and not your capital. The lamb is for clothing, the goat to pay for rent, and the milk of the goats for feeding and the maintenance of the workers.
Don’t be fooled by the good times, riches and a crown do not last forever.
God bless you!
