In the text below, the apostle James teaches guides to everyday life as a Christian. He teaches us to do the following things on a normal day;
[James 5:8-20 KJV] “Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh. [9] Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door. [10] Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience. [11] Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.
[12] But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.
[13] Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.
[14] Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: [15] And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
[16] Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. [17] Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. [18] And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit. [19] Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; [20] Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins”.
1. Be patient in all you do, establish your heart, don’t bear grudge, don’t swear:
The Bible wants us to be patient in all we do. We must understand that God is not just faithful and able but also sovereign. Do not be shaken in your mind or in your heart. Let your heart be established. Don’t be shaken.
No matter what happens try your best not to bear grudge. You may suffer injustice at the hands of others but don’t bear grudge.
More so, don’t swear, let your yes be yes and your no be no. Don’t swear by the heavens nor by the earth nor by an oath; lest you be condemned. You must, therefore, try your best to be transparent. Don’t cast shades of doubt on your choices and action. Stay away from all appearances of evil.
2. If any is afflicted, let him pray:
If any is afflicted, they must pray, because afflictions are supposed to work on us. If for nothing at all, it is to teach and make us perfect lacking no good things. If your father runs to bail you out whenever you have trouble, you will never develop spiritual muscles.
3. If any is merry, let him sing psalms:
If you are merry, sing a psalm. Singing will allow your heart to release the necessary chemicals that will heal your heart of all pain. When you are merry, sing a psalm.
4. If any is sick, let him invite the elders:
When anyone is sick, then it is time to call the elders. The elders must pray over the sick, but the afflicted must pray. Pray will guide and resource them for future challenges and responsibilities.
5. Confess your faults to one another, that you may pray for one another:
We know you are not perfect, but don’t conceal your wrongs, it only gives the devil an advantage over you. He will capitalize on your secret sins to harass and afflict you.
These are the simple secrets for everyday effective life. Be patient, don’t bear grudge, don’t swear, pray when you are afflicted, sing a psalm when you are merry, call the elders to pray when you feel ill, and confess your faults to one another and pray for one another.
Be blessed; I love you!
