[John 19:28-30 KJV] “After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.”
The Lord knows that we are wrestling against Satanic schemes and forces, but everyone was losing the battle against evil because we were;
- Poor
- Broken
- Shackled
- Blind
- Oppressed
- Unfavoured
These were the main things that worked against all of us. We were without hope and Aliens to the covenant. These things put all of us at a disadvantage; these are the things God sent His Son to come and remove out of the way to enable us to live the maximum life. He came to clear the limitations and to give us the power to live a godly life.
When the Lord said “its finish!” What did He mean?
The death of Jesus Christ reveal three things: His death reveals;
1. An end to a life in cuffs and shackles:
He nailed to the cross every handwriting and ordinance that was against you. Anything that barred you from holding yourself as a child of God was taken out of the way. What He meant was that He has broken the shackles and cuffs of curses and sin that denied you access to the Throne of Grace; the greatest benefit of the death of Christ was to give you access to the throne of grace in the day of need to receive grace to help. That is why Luke was quick to note that.
[Colossians 2:13-15 KJV] “And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; and having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.”
2. The second thing the death of Christ reveal the horror of being in a place when God.
The darkness that came upon the Earth reveal the horror of hell. Life without God is a life in darkness and horror!
[Luke 23:44-46 NLT (Mark 15:37-39) “By this time it was about noon, and darkness fell across the whole land until three o’clock. The light from the sun was gone. And suddenly, the curtain in the sanctuary of the Temple was torn down the middle. Then Jesus shouted, “Father, I entrust my spirit into your hands!” And with those words he breathed his last.”
3. The third thing the death of Christ reveal is the fact that all men now have access to God through the new and the living way he has created in his body.
His death gives all men access to the Father; your faith gives you access to that grace or favour to walk the Earth as a child of God. You must, therefore, not take this privilege for granted!
[Hebrews 10:19-25 NLT] “And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven‘s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place. And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him.”
“For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water. Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.”
“And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.”
Ref: Ephesians 2:18; Ephesians 3:12; Romans 5:2; Hebrews 4:16
What is the life application to your every day Christian walk!
The simple implication is; that before Jesus Christ died we were both shackled and cuffed, we could not, therefore, fight effectively. His death has liberated us to resist the adversary. You can not sit aloof and die like a fool. You must arise and resist and fight God victory!
[2 Samuel 3:33-39 KJV]
“And the king lamented over Abner, and said, Died Abner as a fool dieth? Thy hands were not bound, nor thy feet put into fetters: As a man falleth before wicked men, so fellest thou. And all the people wept again over him. And when all the people came to cause David to eat meat while it was yet day, David sware, saying, So do God to me, and more also, if I taste bread, or ought else, till the sun be down.”
“And all the people took notice of it, and it pleased them: as whatsoever the king did pleased all the people. For all the people and all Israel understood that day that it was not of the king to slay Abner the son of Ner.”
“And the king said unto his servants, Know ye not that there is a prince and a great man fallen this day in Israel? And I am this day weak, though anointed king; and these men the sons of Zeruiah be too hard for me: the LORD shall reward the doer of evil according to his wickedness.”
You must not die as Abner did! Don’t die as a fool! Don’t die as an unarmed man; do die as a common man; do die as an unnamed man.
Many of us are watching and looking on as the evil ravage our lives and homes. This is the time to fight as gallant men. This is the time to win over evil.
Stay blessed
