[Deuteronomy 1:15 KJV] “So I took the chief of your tribes, wise men, and known, and made them heads over you, captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, and captains over fifties, and captains over tens, and officers among your tribes.”
A micro church is a church of any number between 5 to 23.
I was very surprised when I learned that the Lord Jesus Christ and other messengers did not call the church a flock for nothing. In fact, the word “sheep of His pasture” was not used frivolously. The Lord used the word carefully.
Animal psychology and sheep behaviour indicates that when you put about 1000 sheep together, they will naturally reorganize themselves into flocks of 5 to 23 sheep. Although the basic natural family size of sheep is three, sheep feel less confident and unsafe when they’re in flocks of less than 5 in number.
Therefore, picking a cue from nature reveals that a micro church is anything between 5 to 23 sheep. The Lord understands that little flocks have a tendency to fear. Little flocks are less confident. “Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom” [Luke 12:32 KJV]
In building a growing micro church, there are five things that matter:
1. A positive leader:
Sheep naturally follow a leader by instinct. That is why we need to rebuke leaders who falter, before all; otherwise their poor attitude would spread to other members of the flock.
2. An active prayerful pulpit:
Sheep follow humans who feed them. Sheep naturally want to graze in a wide area.
3. A solid financial base:
Established through faithful giving, shrewd management of resources, and frugal spending.
4. A formidable team:
We need formidable teams built out of selfless, wise, faithful, and spirit-filled people. (See Acts 6:1-10)
5. A healthy church culture:
This happens when we are able to;
- Receive and honour the messengers that God had sent to us, and their messages to us;
- Worship God in spirit and in truth;
- Fellowship with the brethren and with the spirit;
- Reach out to the lost; and
- Work hard to earn a living and a giving.
The simple steps to building a micro church as outlined in Act 14:21-24, Acts 16:9-15, Luke 14 are:
- Be sure the Holy Ghost is leading you.
- Find a team of 2 or 3 who are willing to go and do the work of ministry. (See Acts 13:1-5)
- Travel to the city where you feel led to start the micro church.
- Tell as many people as possible about what God is doing in their city, by word of mouth, flyers, bills, sign and billboards, radio, television, social media, etc.
- Find and prepare a meetings place.
- When all is set, follow-up the people you have invited and reach more people to attend.
- Arrive on time and run the meeting for growth.
These are the simple steps to start a micro church or fellowship. Remember however that it will take your all, a full commitment to get any tangible results. You must sell everything and buy it. Bless you!
