[Ephesians 1:15-23 KJV] “Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints, [16] Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; [17] That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: [18] The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,“

[19] “And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, [20] Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, [21] Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:” [22] “And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, [23] Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all”.

We have been discussing beginning to do the first works. So why do many believers forsake the first works? They do because they lose their first love. How then do people lose their first love? They lose their first love through faulty thinking. Many of the times we don’t think well. That is why I believe the church must pray for the Spirit of wisdom and revelation of Jesus Christ. This is because it is the one thing that will enlighten their understanding to know the three things that matter in running the race set before them. I exhort you to pray for this Spirit continually from today.

Many people do not finish the race set before them nor fight the good fight of faith to the end because they lack the understanding. Many people are backsliding and not finishing the race set before them because they lack the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him which is able to enlighten the eyes of their understanding. It takes the Spirit of wisdom and revelation of Jesus Christ to have your understanding enlightened. That is why the Apostle Paul said: “when he heard of the faith of the people he ceased not to pray for them….”

The Apostle Paul knew that many of the converts will backslide and fail if they don’t gain the necessary spiritual understanding. We must receive the Spirit of wisdom and revelation of Jesus Christ. Wisdom is a spirit and revelation is also a spirit. It is God who gives that spirit. Many of us will fail if we don’t receive this spirit. I pray for you that you will receive the spirit of wisdom and of revelation.

There are three key things or areas into which we must be enlightened. Every one of us must strive to discover and remember these things:

1. The hope of our calling:

One question that has caused many people to backslide and fall from their first love is the question “what shall we receive after we have left all to follow?” Until a man is fully persuaded of the hope of his calling, that man cannot throw all of his weight into obeying the call. Apostle Paul was able to press on because he was hoping to receive a crown which the Lord shall reserve for those who love Him. Every one of us must receive an enlightened understanding to be able to tell the reason for following and what the hope of our calling is.

2. The riches of the glory of His inheritance among the saints:

There is a glory that is in Christ which we have as an inheritance, you must gain understanding into this inheritance. The Bible tells us that Christ in us is the hope of glory. If we have any hope of walking in the corridors of power and glory, it is Christ in us.

3. The exceeding greatness of His power to us-ward who believe:

This is according to the working of His mighty power, which He worked in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead, and set Him at His own right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: And hath put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be the head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him that filleth all in all.

These are three areas that anyone who wants to finish well in the faith must gain understanding into. You will not go far if you don’t gain understanding into these things in the faith. Now, that kind of understanding comes through receiving the Spirit of wisdom and revelation. That spirit will enlighten your understanding.
