“I will yet for this be enquired of by the house of Israel, to do it for them; I will increase them with men like a flock. As the holy flock… so shall the waste cities be filled with flocks of men.” – EZEKIEL 36:37-38 (KJV)
God’s promise of increase here is tied explicitly to being enquired of, to prayer. He does not increase His people arbitrarily; He waits to be asked. This month, pray specifically that HighCity Church would be increased with men, women, and families like a flock, the wasted, empty spaces filled with new believers, new members, and restored ones returning home.
There is something remarkable about how God frames this promise of increase, He ties it directly to intercession: I will yet for this be enquired of. In other words, the fulfilment of this beautiful promise of a flourishing, filled congregation is connected to the persistent prayers of His people. This month, do not merely hope passively for church growth; enquire of God specifically and persistently for it.
Picture the imagery Ezekiel uses, waste cities, once desolate, filled again with flocks of men, much like the crowded, joyful gathering at a great feast in Jerusalem. This is the picture for HighCity Church: empty seats filled, small cell groups multiplying, families who once attended alone now bringing relatives and friends, backslidden members returning home, and entirely new souls added through evangelism and testimony.
Pray specifically for numerical increase, but also for the depth of discipleship needed to sustain such growth meaningfully, for growth without depth quickly becomes fragile. Ask God to soften hardened hearts in your own family and social circles, to open doors for genuine gospel conversations, and to give the church wisdom in receiving and nurturing every new soul added.
As with Ezekiel’s prophecy, the waste places are not permanently waste, they are simply waiting to be enquired of through fervent, believing prayer, until they overflow with life once again.
