How are you supposed to handle scorners? Today’s message is on the biblical prescription for scorners.
[Jude 1:17-19 KJV] “But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; how that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts. These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.“
A scorner is one that mockers or scorns truth or an honest attempt to pursue virtue. These follow their ungodly lust and have not the Spirit. We call them haters, lose talkers, or nay sayers.
The Bible teaches that in the last day, mockers shall come. They will have such a great impact on our faith; we must, therefore, be careful how we respond to them. This is the time to contend for the faith.
Here are a few prescribed treatment for scorners:
1. Cast out a scorner and contention will cease. The longer you entertain scorners, the deeper your woes, strife and reproach. Scorners teach others to disrespect you!
“Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; Yea, strife and reproach shall cease.”
(Proverbs 22:10 KJV)
Smite every scorner you can; then others will learn how to behave around you. What you allow is what you get!
“Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: And reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge.” (Proverbs 19:25 KJV)
Avoid and ignore scorner! Don’t entertain them around; Don’t try to reprove them.
“Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: Rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.” (Proverbs 9:8 KJV)
“The irreverent have to learn reverence the hard way; only a slap in the face brings fools to attention.” (Proverbs 19:29 MSG)
Let them learn wisdom the hard way; don’t rush to the rescue of someone who scorned your counsel. Wish them well but let them bear the burden of their pride.
Stay blessed
