[Mark 10:17-27 KJV] “And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? [18] And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is , God. [19] Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother. [20] And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth. [21] Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me. [22] And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions. [23] And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! [24] And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God! [25] It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. [26] And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved? [27] And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.
One day a young rich ruler came to Jesus and asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”; then Jesus said “go and keep the law”. If you really want to do something to inherit eternal life, then go and keep the law. The young man said “I have kept the law from my childhood”; then Jesus said “really?”.” Well said then” “you have been rich all this while and other have been poor, so go sell all that you have, give to the poor and come and follow me”. The Bible says the young ruler went away very sad because he had a lot of goods.
What is the moral lesson of this story? Simple! There is nothing a man can do to inherit eternal life. Even the things that must be done is impossible to fulfil. Eternal life therefore is a free gift from God to all who believe and trust Jesus Christ to pay for their sins. Death is a reward for sin but eternal life is a free gift from God.
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord“. [Romans 6:23 KJV]
It is impossible for any man to inherit eternal life except with God.
- With God all things are possible
- With God all men can be saved
- With God nothing is impossible.
If God can make a camel go through the eye of a needle, then there is nothing we seek from Him that He cannot do. God can do all things. Nothing is impossible with God. Until you allow God to come in, somethings will remain impossible. So many things can only happen when God is allowed to take the centre stage. You will see God at work in your life and making things possible when you learn to trust Him.
Eternal life for instance, is a free gift from God, that comes through trusting Jesus Christ to pay for your sins. Jesus Christ is our only connection to the grace that saves. Jesus Christ is the only way, the truth and the life. There is nothing a man can do to inherit eternal life except to trust Jesus Christ.
Be blessed
