[2 Peter 3:1-13 KJV] “This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance: That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:”
“Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:”
“Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.”
“But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,”
“Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.”
Dangers of the times
I want to reveal to you that this present earth and heaven are passing away so quickly with everything in it. The heaven will pass away and the earth will melt with fervent heat. Nothing shall be left standing. Everything you see today, and what we are building today, shall all pass away. The heaven will roll away like a mat and the earth burnt with fervent heat. Nothing shall be left of this present world. Everything shall be destroyed and shall pass away.
Apostle Peter teaches clearly that this has happened before. He refers to the days of Noah when the earth was overflown with water. He teaches that the same things are about to happen. As it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be. The earth was overflown with water then, but this present world will be overwhelmed with fire and brimstone, and sulphur. We have a precedent; we cannot pretend anymore. It has happened before and it will happen again.
The danger and caution are that there have risen many scoffers whose words eat like a canker; these are the sought you need to be careful about. Many have risen who scoff and water down the terror of the day of the Lord. If you are not careful, these sorts will say things that will make you take the terror of that day for granted, but I can assure you of three things
- The day of the Lord is as a thief in the night. When you least expect, then the Lord shall return.
- The Lord will surely come to reward those who believed and to shame those who did not believe with terror.
- We know the terror of the Lord, I have come to warn every man to prepare and escape.
How to be saved
Remember
- “We have all sinned and come short of the glory of God” (See Romans 3:23)
- “The wages of sin is death, but eternal life is a gift from God through Jesus Christ“ (See Romans 6:23)
- “As by one man’s disobedience sin entered into the world and death reigned; by that same means those who receive the gift of righteousness and the abundance of grace shall reign in life by one Jesus” Christ (See Romans 5:17)
- Indeed, we are saved by grace through faith and not by works. Remember, we are saved for good works and not by good works (See Ephesians 2:4-8)
- You can receive the gift of righteousness and the abundance of grace to reign in life by simply believing and confessing the sonship, death, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus from the dead. “With the heart, you believe and with the mouth, confession is made unto righteousness” (See Romans 10:13-17)
Stay blessed
