[Ecclesiastes 9:10-18 KJV] “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest. [11] I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all. [12] For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them”.
[13] “This wisdom have I seen also under the sun, and it seemed great unto me: [14] There was a little city, and few men within it; and there came a great king against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it: [15] Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man”.
[16] “Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor man’s wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard. [17] The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that ruleth among fools. [18] Wisdom is better than weapons of war: but one sinner destroyeth much good”.
The scriptures teach us that, “godliness with contentment is great gain“. A life that is well lived is lived in a godly and content way. You may not have houses, and estates and cars, but if you have lived the way God wanted and you are content with it, then you have lived well. The preacher exhort that we must do whatever our hands have found to do with all of our might.
How do you do what your hands have found with all of your might?
- Be swift
- Be strong
- Be wise
- Be of understanding
- Be skilful
Above all, be instant in season and out of season, and be money wise. Indeed, wisdom is better than strength and weapons of war, but a poor man’s wisdom is despise and his words are not heard. In any case, if there is anything you can do to help your community, do it, even if no one will appreciate your contribution. Because, he that knows how to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.
Be swift because time and tides waits for no man. Whatever you have to do, do it now. Don’t wait for any day or time. Procrastination is the thief of time. Be swift, many have failed in life because they were too slow. You must understand though that being swift will not necessarily make you win, because you are not the only swift person on earth. It takes grace, time, and chance.
Be strong; Life is a constant battle. Many things will try to fight and stop you but you must push through it. You have got to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. We are wrestling constantly, not just against flesh and blood, but against principalities and power. Be strong!
Be wise; With wisdom a house is built. The wise have direction and know where to turn. Though bread does not necessarily come to the wise, wisdom is still the principal thing. You won’t make it just because you are wise, but you can’t make it until you grow wise.
Be of understanding; Without understanding, you cannot fill your house with good things. You can make the most out of everything if you have understanding. Don’t leave life to chance.
Be skilful; Employers would rather hire a skilful person to work than an unskilled person. All things being equal, skills bring favour, though grace, time and chance might give others an advantage.
Remember, there are three things that we need to make it in life above all things: wisdom, wealth, and righteousness. Wisdom is better than strength and weapons of war, but the poor man’s wisdom is despised and his words are not heard; wisdom is better than the weapons of war, but one sinner spoils much good. If you allow a sinner to thrive around you, you will never prosper. Sinners are a leak to the barrel. Proud and arrogant people should not be entertained around you if you want to prosper.
The only secret to make a tree more fruitful is to purge it. You prune it. Pruning and purging makes a tree more fruitful. This is exactly what the Lord teaches in the book of John.
[John 15:1-3 KJV] “I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. [2] Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. [3] Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you”.
Stay blessed; I love you!
