[1 Peter 5:6-7 KJV] “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.“
Reinhold Niebuhr (1892-1971), was an American reformed theologian, ethicist, and intellectual who usually wrote and spoke on religion, politics, and morality. It is believed that he wrote the serenity prayer.
God grant me the serenity
Reinhold Niebuhr (1892-1971)
to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.
Dearly beloved, it is important to understand that there are things you can change and have control over, and there are things you cannot change and have no control over. The greatest blessing is to have the wisdom to know the difference between these two.
From the serenity prayer, I learn that living a tranquil life will require three (3) things that are divinely acquired:
- Peace of God that surpasses all understanding, which come through prayer and supplication.
- Courage and boldness that comes from the ability to trust God and take Him at His word.
- And wisdom that is given through prayer, going to learn from your ant, and sitting at the feet of your teachers.
We must go further to understand the need to:
- Live one day at a time;
- Enjoy one moment at a time;
- Accept hardships as the pathway to peace;
- Take, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as you want it to be;
- Trust that He will make all things right, if you surrender to His Will;
This is one of the easiest ways to find some peace and tranquility in this harsh life.
Stay blessed
