I used to get confused when I go through challenges; I was always wondering if the Lord is indeed my shepherd, then why do I suffer injustice, pain, fear, and terror? But as I meditated on our text psalm, I have come to understand that though I may go through the valley of the shadows of death and confront enemies, I shall not fear because the Lord will be right there to redeem and comfort me.
[Psalms 23:1-6 KJV] “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. [2] He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. [3] He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake”.
[4] “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. [5] Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. [6] Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever”.
We have learned that the whole world lies in wickedness and times are difficult. There are seasons when life will simply not deliver the right kind of result. There are times when many of us literally fear and face horrible and terrible situations. There are times when fear and terror hit you, this is when you many of the things the nations fear comes up against you, even though they do not have what it takes to destroy you.
The Lord sent me to announce to you not to call what they call confederacy, a confederacy; neither fear you their fear nor be afraid. Do not be afraid of what the world is afraid of, and I say unto you “Don’t be afraid”. You must be able to deal with fear and torment. In 1 John 4:18, we learn that fear has torment. You must not make room for fear or terror. You must brace your mind with grit and faith, and stand to contend and defeat fear and terror and doubt.
When fear and terror knock on your door, remind yourself that;
- You are a child of God and He is your Shepherd.
- He that lives in you is greater than anything in the world
- All things work together to your good because you love the Lord’s and are called according to His purpose.
1. You are a child of God, so don’t call a confederacy what they call a confederacy:
[Isaiah 8:12-13] “tells us to Say not, A confederacy, to all them to whom this people shall say, A confederacy; neither fear ye their fear, nor be afraid. Sanctify the Lord of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread”.
You may be walking in the valley of shadows of death and standing in the very presence of your enemies, but in that same place, the Lord shall comfort you and set a table before you. Above all, the Lord shall judge all powers that try to keep you from serving Him.
[Exodus 4:23] “And I say unto thee, Let my son go, that he may serve me: and if thou refuse to let him go, behold, I will slay thy son, even thy firstborn”. There is a decree that is gone out concerning us. Every Pharoah that is holding on to you must give way for you to go and serve the Lord. God wants us to serve Him and He wants us to do so in the land of faith that He promised to Abraham our father.
If you knew who you really belong to, who you are, and who lives in you, you will never be afraid again. You are not just a child of God, you are created in the image and the likeness of God. You have the same power to overcome all that try to terrify you.
2. He that lives in you is greater than he that is in the world:
[1 John 4:4] “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the WORLD”. I have no doubt that every one of us shall overcome. We can overcome because there is Someone living on the inside of us Who is greater than anything in the world. Nothing can stop you if you don’t stop yourself.
3. All Things Work together to your good:
[Romans 8:28] “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose”. Tell yourself that you are not going down when calamity strikes, because whether there is a storm, or poison, or death, or hardship, or pleasure; all things will work together to your good.
The Lord is our strength and our defense, nothing can work against us. You shall arise and soar above every mountain and storm that terrifies. May the Lord be your defense in times of trouble and terror. May God be your hiding place and defense.
