fWhat is the relevance of the church in an ever-evolving society? My message today is on the role of the church in today’s world and why everyone needs a local church family.
[Ecclesiastes 1:9-11 KJV] “The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun. Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us. There is no remembrance of former things; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after.“
- The church exist to prevent the full manifestation of the man of sin, the son of perdition, and the anti-Christ.
- The church is the grounds and the pillar of truth; the church preserves truth. No matter how much the church drifts from the truth; you always rediscover your way back when God cleanses the church and sends a revival.
- The church is the agency charged to re-orient the evolving world to Christ who is the light of the world. We are commissioned to preach the gospel, to inspire faith, and to teach the nations.
- The church is the house of prayer for every nations.
The answer is simple: your world may be evolving but there is no new thing under heaven. Everything you see today have been before and there is nothing new that will evolve that is not now. The problems of today are those of the day before yesterday; the problems of tomorrow will be the problems of yesterday; there is really nothing new.
You must be a student of both history and prophesy if you want to understand the relevance of church in an evolving world.
Yea, that is the secret! The church is relevant in this evolving world for simple reasons:
1. Belonging to a church makes you accountable to a godly family.
One of the greatest problems of society is the lack of accountability. We face the canker of vices and wickedness because we are not accountable. Many of us walk as snakes and not as sheep any more. We are not accountable so we are fooled and cheated always. Belonging to the church makes you accountable.
2. Belonging to a church safeguards your values and virtues in an evolving world
One thing that is common to an evolving society is the evolution of values and virtues. Many societies have shifted so much in the value system that we no longer recognise right from wrong. The advantage of the church, the faith, and the scriptures we have standard, principles, and status quo that don’t change.
The practices and the applications of the fundamental principles may have changed but the doctrines remain the same.
3. Belonging to a church reinforces you as your family would in a cosmopolitan society
The church family reinforces more than any family would. In this evolving society where individualism is emphasised, the church becomes the only family for many people.
4. Belonging to a church preserves your godliness
The church is the grounds and the pillar of truth. Hebrews 10:25 teaches that the church preserves faith and godliness.
Stay blessed
