Revelations 2 and 3 reveal six things that can kill any church; no matter how spiritual or active the church gets. A church does not depend on just activities and events; the church depends largely on very immaterial things. They are not things you can touch but are necessary to secure impact and growth. The six things that can stop any church at any stage of its growth are:
- Loss of first love: Every healthy church thrives on the first love of its members. No matter what you do for God; it must be done out of love if it is going to be valuable in His eyes (See Revelation 2:1). Let us bring back the love for God to church!
- Fear or lack of assurance: Many churches die because they entertain fear. When we allow the enemy to terrify us with crippling fear, we cannot rise and build (See Revelation 2:8). Don’t fear any of thee things. Be strong and be courageous to keep pressing.
- Entertaining a mixed multitude: The church in Pergamos was not doing well because they allow those who join the doctrine of the Nicolaitans to still be among them (See Revelation 2:12). Stop entertaining the mixed multitude.
- Compromise and tolerance for heresy and seduction: Most churches die because they allow Jezebel to teach and seduce in the church. We must stand up and rebuke Jezebel and not allow her to thrive (See Revelation 2:18). This is the time to kick Jezebel out!
- Lack of vigilance and support (See Revelation 3:1-6). Every church must be vigilant and reinforce its members.
- Lack of endurance and loyalty: Revelation 3:7-13, reveal that many churches are not doing well because they are unable to keep the word with patience.
- Lukewarmness, lack of Zeal: Revelation 3:14 demands that you are either hot or cold. God abhors lukewarmness.
These are things we must deal with to stay active, alive, and advancing.
Love you
