We are taught in a parable that the word of God is as a the seed a sower went out to sow, and we learn that when the word of God is preached, it receives four reactions. In any case, how you recieve the word determine the results you’ll get from the word.
You could recieve the word as a wayside grounds, stony ground, thorny soil, or as good grounds. If you want full blessing from the word, then you have to observe the following rules and guides;
1. Battle to retrain the word in your memory:
1 Corinthians 15:2 teaches that we shall be saved if we keep the word which we believe in our memory – scripture memorisation. Memorising scriptures will not save you, except you have firstly believed it. (See Mark 4:14-15; Luke 8:12)
2. Don’t change what you have believed from the word, no matter what:
Hold on tightly to the word. Resolve not to get offended at the word, believe and hold on to the word to the end. Don’t let the happenings and circumstances of your life determine what you believe. Hold on to the word even if the circumstances prove contrary. (Mark 4:16-17)
“Moreover he called for a famine upon the land: he brake the whole staff of bread. He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant: Whose feet they hurt with fetters: he was laid in iron: Until the time that his word came: the word of the Lord tried him. The king sent and loosed him; even the ruler of the people, and let him go free. He made him Lord of his house, and ruler of all his substance: To bind his princes at his pleasure; and teach his senators wisdom.” (Psalms 105:16-22 KJV)
“Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples, And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another? Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see: The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.” (Matthew 11:2-6 KJV)
3. Be anxious for nothing:
The cares of this world will steal the wind from your sail. Trust the word to deliver no matter what. (See Philippians 4:6)
4. Don’t be deceived by riches:
Money is good, useful and important; but more valuable than riches is health, your spirit, and your relationships. The love of money is the root of all evil. If you allow riches to deceive you, you will get corrupted.
5. Don’t lust for other things:
Don’t be deceived by pleasures of life. In the akan dialect, “it is said sweets kills a fool.” Don’t get deceived by pleasures that other things bring.
6. Battle to nurture, keep and understand the word you hear with an honest and good heart:
Matthew 13:23 teaches this clearly. Those who bring forth fruits by the word are those who understand the word they hear in the context of God’s reality.
This word has made champions of many nobodies. Many who came from very humble backgrounds rose to prominence because of this word.
Enjoy the best of this season; I love you!
