Backsliding is a spiritual ailment that attacks the spirit of a man when demons gain access to the body.
[Luke 11:21-26 KJV] “When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace: [22] But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils. [23] He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth”.
[24] “When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out. [25] And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished. [26] Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first”.
It is a spiritual sickness in the spirit caused by devils. Just as getting born again is a spiritual thing, backsliding is also a spiritual sickness caused by devils. The Lord Jesus Christ taught very clearly in the text above that when devils gain access to the life of a person, their later state shall be worst than the former. This is why it is important for us to ensure that devils do not gain access to our bodies.
When unclean spirits enter into a person, they begin to fight and war against the person and destroy the person. When then demons entered into the pigs after they were cast out of the demonic, the pigs were all destroyed. They drowned themselves. When the demons were in the man of Gadara, they were destroying him. When such spirits gain access to you, they will destroy you.
Even though, backsliding can be healed; prevention is better than cure. The Bible teaches that when we return to the Lord, He will heal us of our backsliding, but often, we would have lost time and virtue. I pray that as you return to the Lord in prayer, He shall heal you of your backsliding.
[Jeremiah 3:22 KJV] “Return, ye backsliding children, and I will heal your backslidings. Behold, we come unto thee; for thou art the Lord our God”.
The Bible shows clearly that when unclean spirits leave a man, they immediately begin a search for another man or place they can dwell. Demons are never idle. They are constantly searching for a place they may inhabit. The Bible says they roam in dry places looking for rest, however, if they don’t find any, they decide to return to check out places they have previously inhabited, and if they find the place swept and garnished without activity, they look for seven more wicked devils and come to take over the place.
Be spiritually active
The simple secret to keep devils and evil eyes off your case is to get involved in spiritual activities.
This is the only way to keep devils out of your life. To keep the devils out, you must try to stay spiritually active. This is because when devils come to check you out and they realize that you are clean, garnished, but idle; they look for help and they possess you. An idle life is the devil’s greatest opportunity.
Continue steadfastly
Each of us must, therefore, continue steadfastly in the doctrine and fellowship, prayer, and breaking of bread, giving, and keeping the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Luke 11:24-26 teaches this spiritual reality more clearly than any other Bible verse. The Lord always issues decrees concerning His servants; those who serve the Lord shall be preserved. This is because, He shall rebuke nations and say “touch not my anointed, do my prophets no harm”.
Watch and pray
That is why the Bible teaches us to watch and pray lest we enter into temptation. Without prayer and watchfulness, you will be prey to the enemy. When you pray the Lord delivers you from temptation and traps.
You shall not backslide nor lose your first love. You shall escape every trap of the enemy and you shall arise and make it. The Lord shall heal you of all backsliding, your first love, and first faith, and first hope shall be restored.
