Psalm 118:17–18 (KJV) — “I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD. The LORD hath chastened me sore: but he hath not given me over unto death.”
Psalm 118 is a song of thanksgiving sung by one who has walked through danger, discipline, and near defeat, yet emerged by the mercy of God.
The psalmist does not deny pain or correction; instead, he boldly declares survival, purpose, and testimony. This scripture reminds us that God’s discipline is never meant to destroy us but to restore us.
Many of us can testify that we have sinned, made poor choices, and wandered from God’s perfect will. At times, the consequences have been heavy, and the Lord has chastened us sore. Yet hear this truth clearly: God’s correction is not a death sentence.
The Lord disciplines those He loves, but He never hands His children over to the gates of death. Grace restrains judgment. Mercy interrupts destruction. Even when we deserve the worst, God chooses redemption.
Declare it with faith today: I shall not die! Not spiritually, not prematurely, not hopelessly. You will live, live to testify, live to declare, live to show that it takes grace and mercy to survive this life. Your story is not over. Your survival is proof that God still has a purpose for you.
You are alive because mercy spoke. You are standing because grace intervened. Now live, and declare the works of the Lord.
Prayers

- Lord, by Your grace, I declare that I shall live and not die prematurely.
