I want to speak to you today about 3 things that will make most people hold on to life.
[Job 14:14 KJV] “If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.”
Very often than not, many of us in our own lifetime face disappointments and hard times. Often, many come to that point that they also despair of even life itself, but most people pull through. They fight for life and they fight to stay alive. Most people may have come to the point of contemplating even suicide; once they remember and find these three things, they begin to have a reason to live.
These 3 things are, someone to love, something to do, and something to hope for; these are the three key reasons many people hold on to life in very challenging times.
Someone to love:
Remember, I said someone to love, I did not say someone to love you. Most often than not people hold on to life when they have someone they love. Whether it is a good or a bad person does not matter. It is just someone to love. Whenever people get to the point of giving up; they will hold on and cling strongly to life when they have someone they can love.
[1 John 4:18 KJV] “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
Something to do:
The second thing that will make most people hold on to life is if they have something to do. As long as people have something to do, they will hold on to life and not die. That is why you should not retire in life. Have you realised that when you find something to do, you seem to forget your pain and hurt and anxiety? Boredom and idleness kill. Let us strive to find something to do, in addition to someone to love.
For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption, But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption (Acts 13:36-37).
Something to hope for:
Finally, people cling to life when they have something to hope for. When I still have something to aspire for, I will hold on. The most formidable hope and aspiration to look forward to is the return of the Lord. When people expect the return of the Lord and promise of life and peace that follows, many of them are able to hold on.
The Bible, however, teaches us that, if in this life only that we have hope, then among all creatures we are the most miserable. Every one of us must have hopes and aspirations that transcends this life. We must all come to that place in life where we know that there is hope for the future. We must hope for a better tomorrow.
[1 Corinthians 15:19 KJV] “If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable”
