Dealing with Curses

Dealing with Curses

[Proverbs 26:2] “As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come”.

We shall be studying the secrets to dealing with curses; It is important to understand that a curse is a solemn utterance intended to invoke a supernatural power to inflict harm or punishment on someone or something. Curses, therefore, works against the prosperity and advancement of the sons of men. The will of God is that we shall be blessed and be in health, even as our souls prosper.

The Bible tells us that only curses with a cause shall stand. A causeless curse shall not stand. It shall just wander. It is therefore important to remove the causes at the root of a curse and the curse will have no power.

There are several sources and types of curses;

1. The curse of the law;

The curse of the law is curse imposed by breaking or breaching the law. In fact, this is the kind of curse that the finished work of Christ delivered us from. The curse of the law is broken by simply receiving Christ, but there are other curses that must be broken through engaging with truth in warfare.

[Galatians 3:13‭-‬14 KJV] “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: [14]  That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith”.

The finished work of Christ on the cross, has delivered us from the curse of the law, but not from the other curses. Our faith in Christ may however give us the authority to deal with those curses. Aside the curse of the law, other types of curses are mainly dealt with by righteousness and warfare or exercising authority.

These other types of curses are:

2. The curse of breaching a covenant with a deity:

This is most often operative in Africa, where our ancestors have benefited from the magic and protection of deities, yet when we come of age we just walk out of the covenant. It is important to deal with the curses when you walk out of the covenant. It is important to exercise your dominion over these curses even after you are born again. The demons will always try to reinforce the curses for breaking the covenant.

3. Curses imposed by an offended higher authority:

Noah cursed his son Ham for dishonouring him; Jacob cursed Reuben for couching on his bed, sleeping with his wife. Isaac could have cursed Jacob if he had found out he was trying to deceive him.

4. Curses placed by wizard, witches, fetishes, prophets, and people of magical or higher spiritual powers;

Balaam tried to curse Israel; he was unable to curse them because the shout of the King was among them and God had not found iniquity in them. But there are times when wizards and witches and fetish try to place curses and hex on people.

5. Curses that take effect when one contravenes a spiritual standing order;

After Joshua destroyed Jericho, he placed a curse on anyone who will tries to rebuild the walls. That became a spiritual standing order, and anybody who broke that rule came under the curse.

6. Curses imposed by bringing cursed objects into your home or your life;

Achan brought a curse or bad omen to the nation because he brought an  accursed object home. You may be fully born again but if you bring cursed objects home, that home will be haunted.

7. Self-imposed curses;

These are curses that take effect because of the curses that we have spoken by ourselves.

I believe with all of my heart that, after we have believed in the Lord Jesus and have been saved, we must engage with truth and begin to deal with the roots and causes and devils behind these curses. It is important to engage the force of light and righteousness to deal with these curses.

I pray that each of us will not just believe but also walk blameless and in authority. May the hand of the Lord sustain us. May the shout and the praise of the King be among us. May the Lord not find iniquity in any of us. May Balaam and Jezebel lose their hold on our lives. May God be your strength and rear-ward.

Stay blessed
