According to 2 Chronicles 7:13–14, there are four simple steps to reopen a shut heaven. These are the direct words of God. These are not some random suggestions from a priest or prophet but the Lord himself as a loving father, showing us the way to return to be revived, restored, and repositioned for exploits!
This is a four-level journey that might take walking 4000 cubits in the water of the word from under the altar as in the prophet Ezekiel’s vision. [Ezekiel 47]
This is a four-level journey that walks you step by step through God’s pathway to revival, restoration, and repositioning for greater impact— humbling yourself, praying, seeking His face, and turning from wicked ways — that heaven may open again over our lives, families, and nations.
LEVEL 1: HUMBLE YOURSELF BEFORE GOD
2 Chronicles 7:13–14 (KJV) “If I shut up heaven that there be no rain… If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves…”
Every move of God begins with a heart bowed low. When heaven seems shut, the Lord doesn’t first ask for louder prayers but for humbled hearts. To humble yourself means to recognize that you are not sufficient in yourself—that all you are and have come from God.
Pride builds walls; humility opens heaven. God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble (James 4:6). To humble yourself is to let go of self-confidence and self-righteousness and acknowledge your total dependence on God.
Humility means:
- Admitting your need for God. Stop pretending to be strong; surrender your weakness.
- Submitting to God’s Word. Allow His truth to shape your values and actions.
- Repenting of pride. Pride hides in subtle places—titles, achievements, even religious acts. Expose it before God.
Before revival can begin in any heart or nation, humility must come first. The lower we bow, the higher His grace lifts us.
Prayer:
Lord, I humble myself before You. Take away every pride, self-dependence, and hidden arrogance in me. I acknowledge my need for You—be my strength, my wisdom, and my guide. Amen.
LEVEL 2: PRAY AND SEEK GOD’S HELP
2 Chronicles 7:14 (KJV) “…If my people… shall humble themselves, and pray…”
Once humility is restored, prayer becomes powerful. Prayer is the act of bringing heaven into our human situation. It is how we invite God’s power into our weakness and His wisdom into our confusion.
To pray in this verse is to cry out in dependence—not formal words, but heartfelt communication. True prayer begins when the heart bows before God and acknowledges, “Lord, I need You.”
To pray effectively:
- Pray with sincerity. God listens to honest hearts more than eloquent voices.
- Pray with repentance. Unconfessed sin blocks answers. Let your heart be clean before you speak.
- Pray with faith. Believe that God still hears and answers His children.
- Pray with persistence. Keep seeking until heaven responds.
A praying people are a powerful people. When we humble ourselves and pray, God moves, sins are forgiven, and dry lands bloom again.
Prayer:
Father, teach me to pray in truth and power. Hear my cry and heal my heart. Let my prayers bring Your presence, forgiveness, and restoration upon our land. Amen.
LEVEL 3: SEEK THE FACE OF THE LORD
2 Chronicles 7:14 (KJV) “…and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways…”
God’s call to seek His face is a call to intimacy. It’s an invitation to pursue His presence, not just His blessings. His “face” represents His favor, fellowship, and closeness.
To seek God’s face means to desire Him above all else—to hunger for His presence more than His provision. It is to say, “Lord, I want You, not just what You can give me.”
To truly seek the Lord:
- Prioritize His presence. Spend time with God daily in prayer, worship, and His Word.
- Desire intimacy over activity. Don’t just serve Him; know Him. Seek to please His heart.
- Listen and obey. Seeking His face includes aligning your life with His will.
When God’s people begin to seek His face sincerely, heaven opens. The glory that was lost returns, and the fire of revival burns again. Seeking God’s face restores what sin and neglect have stolen.
Prayer:
Lord, I seek Your face today. Draw me closer until I love Your presence more than anything else. Let my heart burn with passion for You alone. Reveal Your glory and heal our land. Amen.
LEVEL 4: TURN FROM YOUR WICKED WAYS
2 Chronicles 7:14 (KJV) “…and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
Turning from wicked ways is not just feeling sorry—it is repentance in action. To turn means to change direction, to leave the path of disobedience, and return to God’s will.
Wickedness is not only found in open rebellion but also in secret compromise—bitterness, pride, unforgiveness, and neglect of God’s Word. God calls His people to turn fully to Him, not halfway.
To turn from wicked ways:
- Recognize sin as sin. Stop making excuses; call it what God calls it.
- Repent sincerely. True repentance is not tears—it is change.
- Renounce every sinful habit. Replace darkness with light; replace disobedience with surrender.
When we turn, God promises to hear, forgive, and heal. The condition for healing has never changed—humility, prayer, seeking, and repentance. When God’s people return to Him, He restores the land and revives the nation.
Prayer:
Lord, I turn from every wicked way and surrender completely to You. Forgive me, cleanse me, and restore Your presence in my life. Heal our hearts, our homes, and our nation. Amen.
Closing Thought:
When God’s people humble themselves, pray, seek His face, and turn from their wicked ways, heaven responds. Forgiveness flows, revival is birthed, and healing begins. The same God who spoke to Solomon still speaks today: “Then will I hear from heaven.”
