This a common concept in the charismatic pentecostal circles lately. This concept I think have been misapplied and used as a tool to both control and use people either as tools or as stepping stones. I want to share with you simple tips to know and relate with a spiritual father.
- The father should have given birth to you by his gospel. You don’t choose your father; you may choose your instructors, even that you father must put you under tutors. If he is your father in the ministry then he must have been the person for whose existence you came to ministry. Paul was the spiritual father of Timothy because he brought him into the ministry.
- There should be a relationship between you and the spiritual father. He should know you and you should know him. Inasmuch as you must be submitted to your fathers in the faith, your fathers must also care about you. He should come to your rescue in times of crisis. He should not reject you. A father is a protector, provider, and prophet to you. You must have a relationship with your spiritual father!
- You should be submitted to your father and serve him. There is a difference between a mentor and a father. and follow his ways of doing things.
- He should cover and protect you. He should be interest in what you are doing and you should open up and report to him.
- You should communicate and support what he does; since his ministry is the well you drank or have been drinking from.
