The manifestations of the glory of God, presence and splendor of God, is not for the building of monuments but to encourage our obedience. Unfortunately, many of us build monuments around the glory and splendor. Many of us have built monuments around the glory instead of being inspired to action and obedience.
There is one simple reason why you should not build monuments around the glory; the glory is dynamic and fluid.
Remember that the Bible says;
- The glory of children are their fathers
- The glory of youth is their strength
- The glory of the aged is their hoary hair
So then what looks glorious on you at one point may not be glorious at another stage of life. We must, therefore, surf on the present glory to prepare for the next glory to be revealed. Don’t build monuments and relics around one manifestation of splendor.
Three people in Scripture who hurt generations by building monuments around the glory are;
- Moses
- Jacob
- The disciples
Moses — Built a veil around the glory and splendor on his face.
Jacob — Built Bethel which later hurt Jeroboam. Jeroboam out of insecurity made Jeroboam a centre of worship against the will of God.
Peter, James, and John — Wanted to build three tents to house Jesus and Moses, and Elijah in the transfiguration (See Luke 9:26-30).
[Luke 9:28-36 KJV] “And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray. And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering.”
“And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias: Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem. But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him.”
“And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said. While he thus spake, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered into the cloud.”
“And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. And when the voice was past, Jesus was found alone. And they kept it close, and told no man in those days any of those things which they had seen.”
I pray that you shall never get tempted to build monuments around a manifestation of glory. Let the manifestations rather help you to arise to actions and obedience.
Whereas God brought Peter, James, and John to the mountain to see the glory and be inspired to action, they were rather thinking about building monuments. You will become stagnant in life when you build monuments around manifestations. Glory is dynamic and passing, you must press on with the glory.
[Exodus 33:18-23 KJV] “And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory. And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.”
“And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live. And the Lord said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock:”
“And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a cleft of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by: And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.”
The glory is passing and in phases. I pray that this phase will prepare us for the next phase.
